💃 They Don't Know...
I've drafted 1,000 teams...
In this week's P.O. Box:
Good luck explaining this…
Stream roundup: Lots of drafts
Offszn Book Club: July books
On Tap: Randomizer, After Dark
Earlier this week I wrote about the increasing divide between the worlds of best ball and redraft managed leagues.
Jakob Sanderson had recently pinpointed one of the more hilarious differences and now I can’t stop thinking about it.
It’s easy to hunker down in our sick, twisted best ball bubble, but the imminent return of the redraft normies has brought into focus just how different our two worlds have become.
While they prepare to purchase their first magazines of the year, many people reading this are already hundreds of teams deep.
Consider this week alone:
Some 600+ people were watching Best Ball Breakfast live on Monday morning
Underdog announced a rakeback program where one of the tiers involved 1,000 drafts and no one blinked
We’re debating whether a new wave of best ball tools is too sophisticated
Oh, and some dude bought a boat and named it “BBMIV”
I’m not sure where we go from here, but I know it will be virtually unrecognizable to your home league buddies.
🤹 How to build a superteam (note: it requires balls). The BBM2 champ, Liam Murphy, joins me to share his playbook for drafting a juggernaut in Best Ball Mania. Check it out on the Deposit Kingdom channel.
🤝 My 7 Favorite Backfields To Stack. I’ve become a regular “handcucker” in drafts, so I wrote up seven cheap pairings I like to take in drafts for Fantasy Life.
☕️ Best Ball Breakfast: How To Stay Flexible. Four more drafts on BBB this week, including ones with Shawn Siegele, Pat Kerrane, and JJ Zachariason. Topics discussed: 3-QB builds and their power in the playoff gauntlet, luxury picks, light mode vs. dark mode, and how to dig out of a WR avalanche.
🏆️ Fantasy Life roundup. This week I wrote about the increasing divide between the best ball and managed redraft worlds, as well as two post-hype pass catchers in Seattle.

🕵️ Book #11 for June (30%): The Hunter by Tana French
I’m slightly behind pace on this book, but will hopefully make up some ground this weekend. The beginning is a bit of a slow burn with all of the table setting, but I can tell it’s going to pay off.
I am really enjoying reading this thing with an Irish accent in my head. There’s some great dialogue exchanges:
“What I’m saying is, the bold Cillian has no doubt it’s there.”
“His granny was a Feeney, sure,” Senan points out. “The Feeneys’d believe anything.”
“Ah, now, hang on,” says Bobby, offended. “Sure, you believe there’s UFOs up the mountains—”
“I don’t believe in them. I seen them. D’you believe in your sheep?”
“I believe in the prices they fetch. When you bring an alien into the mart and get six quid a kilo for it, then I’ll—”
⛰️ Book #12 for June (NON-FICTION): Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer
Into Thin Air is the definitive account of the deadliest season in the history of Everest by the acclaimed journalist and author of the bestseller Into the Wild.
I loved River of Doubt, so wanted to keep the adventure theme rolling. This was recommended by one of you in the form and looks great.
🤠 Book #13 for June (FICTION): True Grit by Charles Portis
In the 1870s, young Mattie Ross learns that her beloved father was gunned down by his former handyman. But even though this gutsy 14-year-old is seeking vengeance, she is smart enough to figure out she can't go alone after a desperado who's holed up in Indian territory. With some fast-talking, she convinces mean, one-eyed US Marshal "Rooster" Cogburn into going after the despicable outlaw with her.
I’ve read (and loved) Portis’ Dog of the South and seen the film, but I’ve never read True Grit. This feels like a fun mid-summer read to tackle.
