On Tap: DFS After Dark & Week 8 DFS Cram
Last week I shared a new Swolecast shirt I had made. A few days later I found out that Rotogrinders would no longer be hosting The Swolecast—a DFS comedy show I’ve done for over four years now.
The show was one of many casualties at RotoGrinders this week after its parent company—Better Collective—laid off over 100 employees, including some long-time DFS personalities like David Kitchen (my Swolecast co-host) and Squirrel Patrol.
You can get more context about the cutdowns here, but the TLDR is an equity company made a really bad bet, forecasted a huge downturn in 2025 revenue, and then watched their stock tank.
Regardless of the who/what/whys, the end result is that one of the longest-running institutions in the DFS space is getting stripped down to its bare bones.
I will say right away (since there was a ton of questions in the Deposit Kingdom Discord this week), The Swolecast is going nowhere. Kitchen owns the domain and is getting the RSS feed. We’ll be back up and running on Tuesday. We still need to find a sponsor, so if you’d are interested, slide in.
But I’ve still been bummed watching this all unfold. Bummed for a friend like Kitchen who now has to scramble mid-season. Bummed for people like Dan Back who had to let go of so many employees and maintain a brave face. And bummed for what it means for the DFS space.
We’ve talked on LOLz a lot about DFS (at least salary cap) feeling like its plateaued and moves like this do nothing to assuage those concerns.
Like countless other people in the fantasy space, I got my start at RotoGrinders. Back in 2019, I started making some best ball content for RG (this is when the original idea for the Randomizer was born) and then Kitchen asked me to join the Swolecast when Evan Silva left to start ETR.
Around the same time, they also hosted my “GPP Bankroll Challenge,” which eventually evolved into the “Pourtfolio Review” shows that I still regularly do every Monday morning on my channel.

My DraftKings morale has not changed in 5 years
It’s also when I first started doing short-form DFS bits and sketches like Chalkitis and First Look, which would later become the inspiration for the Best Ball bro series.
It really is crazy how much of what I’m doing now can be traced back to those early opportunities at RG (just don’t show Kitchen this post, his tree ego is big enough as is).
I know RG isn’t dead, per se, but it certainty isn’t what it used to be and that’s a big loss for the space.
