I'm Washed
Better luck next year...
In this week's P.O. Box:
The fake young charade is over
Content roundup: 2 After Darks
On Tap: Best Ball Breakfast w/ Pat Mayo
I turn 38 years old this weekend.
For awhile, I had a string of birthdays that landed mid-week on nights I had shows. I’d have a blast staying up late and drinking on stream before paying the price for it the next day.
But this year?
We have a dinner reservation to get sushi…at 5pm.
I’m going to go play golf…with my father-in-law.
If all goes to plan, I’ll be asleep by 9:30pm after watching approximately 36 minutes of “The Pitt” (which Lauren and I recently circled back to after being too squeamish for it the first time around).
And you know what? I’m not even mad about it.
It’s funny how quickly our framework can be rewired.
Going to bed early used to feel like a death sentence and now staying up late is what feels like a death sentence.
Deleting (how you do, fellow kids?) a half dozen beers used to be an ideal evening and now I want nothing to do with the repercussions.
I guess I’m done keeping up this fake young charade. As of this birthday, I’m officially calling it joever for me and my youthful ways.
I’m washed…and I wouldn’t want it any other way,

🤓 FANTASY LIFE: 4 Cheap Late-Round Stacks To Target In Drafts. I did this exercise before the NFL Draft, and only one of the initial reccs (the Panthers) still meets my criteria so I wanted to shout out three other late-stacks I’ve been focusing on at the end of drafts.
I regularly write the Fantasy Life Newsletter. Get it in your inbox free every am:

No shows this weekend—recorded After Dark last night—but I’ll be back on Monday for Best Ball Breakfast with Kerrane, Leone, and special guest Pat Mayo:

☁️ Book #5 for June & July (20%): Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr
Slowly chipping away at this. It took me a little bit to find my footing with the characters and remember the various plots every time I pick it up again, but I’m starting to get hooked.
It reminds me a lot of the Emily St. John Mandel book we read last year (Sea of Tranquility).
🐊 Book #4 for May (COMPLETED): Gator Country: Deception, Danger, and Alligators in the Everglades by Rebecca Renner
🍌 Book #3 for April (COMPLETED): The Fish That Ate the Whale: The Life and Times of America’s Banana King by Rich Cohen
💉 Book #2 for March (FINISHED): Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe.
🐃 Book #1 for February (FINISHED): The Heart in Winter by Kevin Barry
