Living The Fantasy Life

New digs...

In this week's P.O. Box:

  • Fantasy Life keeps shipping

  • Content roundup: How many rookies is too many rookies?

  • On Tap: After Dark w/ Jack Miller

  • Book Club: The Japanese language

One of the things I’ve been working on behind-the-scenes this summer is QA’ing and testing all of the new tools and features at Fantasy Life.

I legitimately thought we were crazy when I saw the scope of what we were launching this summer, but now it is all coming to fruition.

There is still more on the horizon, but I thought I’d highlight three things I’m most excited about right…

A New Best Ball Hub

As a best ball bro, I’m very stoked about the revamped Best Ball Hub. Download your CSV from Underdog, upload it to the Hub, and then dig in.

Here’s a recent “player combo” query I did on my Chiefs exposures after the Rashee Rice news broke:

The Utilization Report

I use the UR constantly in-season for both my own DFS research and when making content, so these new modules are a godsend:

Additional reading: Just yesterday I used the comparison tool to make the case that George Pickens should be valued similarly to Tee Higgins this year.

Guillotine Leagues

There is only one format of fantasy football where I can stomach setting weekly waivers and it is the Guillotine leagues.

If you aren’t familiar with the concept, it’s similar to The Eliminator contest on Underdog, except these are 17-team leagues where each week the lowest-scoring team gets the boot and that team's players get added to the waiver wire for the remaining managers.

I plan to host a couple of these over the next month (including one at our Ship Chasing meet-up in Florida next weekend) and I can’t recommend it enough.

It is by far the most fun way to play managed leagues…

This is honestly just scratching the surface, so make sure you are subscribed to the Fantasy Life Newsletter (which I’m going to start writing 5 days/week shortly) for more updates.

You can get 20% off any FantasyLife+ subscription with promo code Pete, as well.

💸 DEPOSIT KINGDOM: An extreme draft strategy that might be dumb or genius. Jakob Sanderson and I try to figure out how many rookies is too many rookies in this new video.

🤓 FANTASY LIFE: Weekly Roundup. This week we spotlighted a new late-round TE sleeper, four key injury situations, and a veteran WR poised for a breakout. Also, we shared how we are using the new Best Ball Hub.

I regularly write the Fantasy Life Newsletter. Get it in your inbox free every am:

☕️ BEST BALL BREAKFAST: Drafts With The Champs & A New Swear Jar. Don’t say it don’t say it don’t say it…

⏰ OFF & ON THE CLOCK: The Hottest New Contest On Underdog. The Badge Bros Brawl contest is like Best Ball Mania meets Weekly Winners meets a Battle Royale draft. Very fun.

🚢SHIP CHASING: A Best Ball Mania VI Draft (Relay Style). We got into some fun player debates on this one.

☣️ LOLZ: Prediction Markets, Lotteries & Hulk Hogan. Clearly a wide-range of topics on this one.

📈 ADP CHASING: Early Camp News Leads To Big ADP Risers/Fallers. A very funny edition of ADP Chasing this week (“sign here if you are mad!”).

🥃 BEST BALL AFTER DARK: with Jack Miller (Sunday @ 8pm ET). Fantasy wunderkind Jack Miller joins me to discuss working at ETR and his best ball research findings.

For After Dark shows, you can become a YT member for access or subscribe on Spotify for a private RSS feed (I post the video/audio there directly after the show).

book club

Even though this book doesn’t have much of a plot line, I really am enjoying all of the travel vignettes and flashbacks to his youth.

I’m very guilty of over-romanticizing Japan, so this subject matter squarely hits my interests.

I love how he describes the Japanese language and all of the different levels to it. I couldn’t really think of a good comparison in English where elevated language signals respect to someone in a non-contrived way. His examples of showing respect through specific word choices and how it helped diffuse otherwise tricky situations in Japan is fascinating.
