My New Favorite Show

Say nothing...

In this week's P.O. Box:

  • Say Nothing is terrific

  • Stream roundup: We’ve entered the offseason

  • Book Club: Almost done with The Heart In Winter

With the NFL season over and some of my nights freeing up, Lauren and I are finally working through a backlog of TV shows we’ve been meaning to watch.

It still takes us forever to get through a show—we’ve been guilty of splitting a 50-minute episode into two nights (welcome to parenthood, folks)—but right now we are absolutely loving Say Nothing on Hulu through four eps.

I won’t spoil anything, but it’s based on a true story and centers around the political conflict in Northern Ireland from the 1970s to 1990s. The plot mostly follows two sisters who become involved with the Irish Republican Army.

It’s violent, funny, and sad all at once.

What’s really impressive to me is how little fat there is to this show. There’s not a second wasted, which gives every scene this crazy energy and forward-moving momentum.

And for as many action scenes as there are—heists, espionage, car chases, etc—the characters are surprisingly fleshed out.

I’ve heard the second-half of the season gets even darker, but I can’t imagine them not sticking the landing based on how good the first four eps were.

If you got any other TV show recs for me (yes, we’re watching Severance), lemme know.

🥃 DFS AFTER DARK: w/ Guest Pat Mayo. Did After Dark last night and had a great chat with Mayo about parenthood, US vs. Canada, traveling, sports betting, and being stubborn on Youtube.

💪 THE SWOLECAST: Owns The Offseason. We recapped the Super Bowl, I think?

☣️ LOLZ: w/ Guest ShipMyMoney. Dug into what it takes to be a successful DFS player right now (with a focus on NBA).

☕️ POURTFOLIO REVIEW: Football Is Over But I’ve Found Your Next Hobby. The one where we explored whether “Valentine’s Day” music exists or not.

❤️ GUEST SPOT ON MAYO MEDIA NETWORK: 5 Things We Love At Sports. Talked about back when I was a laundry bro.

🌯 GUEST SPOT ON SPIKE WEEK: A Best Ball Bro Convo Not About Best Ball. Erik asked me a bunch of fun, non-fantasy/football questions.

Fine, let’s draft some 2025 teams. Best Ball Breakfast returns on Monday at 10am ET:

🚂 Book #1 for February (60%): The Heart in Winter by Kevin Barry

We were talking in the Discord about how this book is both very engaging, but also requires a good bit of focus to digest the prose.

Still, some of the lines are incredible. A couple of my favorites:

There were women out there with the pure Jesus sweating from every pore.

He pushed in the door and looked down on the lovers and spoke gently, his lips soft with malice.
