🏆 Super Bowl week. With my beloved Broncos out of the playoff picture, I’ve tried my best this week to manufacture interest in this matchup and give stakes to a Super Bowl that is sorely lacking compelling storylines.
As usual, I’m relying on fantasy and betting to make things interesting:
I think there is a pretty nice edge in the MVP markets for the game.
I compiled all of my favorite Underdog picks in this Fantasy Life piece. I also built a ton of fun longshot entries with friends from the Deposit Kingdom on this week’s Pick’ Em edition of the Bash. Make sure to take advantage of all the promos and boosts being offered this week.
I talked Showdown DFS strategy with both the Run The Sims guys and Cody Main. I’ll also have an article out on Fantasy Life that should post Sunday am.
Finally, I put 12 entries in the Swolecast “Big Game” Tiers contest ($10k guaranteed), which we discussed on the show this week. George Holani is a jam in that last tier.
📚 A huge shout out to public libraries. We had multiple issues with our internet provider this past week and I had to scramble to the local library multiple times to do shows. Both times they hooked me up with a private conference room despite no advanced notice. It got me thinking how much I appreciate and am thankful for these public spaces. In addition to being a port in an internet storm, they’ve provided our family with so many free toddler activities over the past couple years, which are especially a godsend during these New England winters.
I also learned that gambling from the library is quite the thrill.
🧊 Ice Castles. Speaking of NE winters, we took a quick overnight trip to New Hampshire on Wednesday to see the ice castles. April, who is in her Frozen stage, absolutely loved it. I put up a few pics here.
🏓 Marty Supreme delivered. Lauren and I finally got to the theaters to see this and I enjoyed it. It really does feel like a sequel to Uncut Gems. Chalamet is of course great, but the score from Daniel Lopatin aka Oneohtrix Point Never might have been my favorite part. I’ve been listening to it non-stop while writing this week.
BTW, for more movie talk, be sure to check out last week’s After Dark with Daniel Racz (he’s seen everything).
Enjoy the game.

🧱 Book #1 for January (60%): The City and Its Uncertain Walls by Haruki Murakami.
I was a little nervous I wasn’t going to love this one after the start, but it really hit its stride once our unnamed narrator moved to the small town to run the library.

Also, be sure to check out Eddie’s appearance on the Bash (55 min mark). It was my first time getting to meet the PO Box Book Club MVP.
