In May, I officially signed up for the Boston Hyrox that takes place in October.

…and then I forgot about it for three months. I was a little preoccupied. Last week it dawned on me, however, that I was less than two months out from the competition and had yet to start training.

I lift and run regularly, but I knew that I needed to get my ass in gear and start preparing specifically for this competition otherwise I was going to get smoked.

I started looking for a nearby gym that had Hyrox-specific classes or, at the very least, some of the equipment I was lacking (ski erg, sleds, etc).

After a quick search, I found more than what I was bargaining for—a Hyrox race sim (aka a full dress rehearsal) that would be taking place last Saturday. I immediately registered. Forget a slow burn—we were going to toss ourselves into the deep end and see just how behind we were.

I was assigned a 9:20am time slot and rolled up to the gym fifteen minutes early. I did a half-assed warm-up and then introduced myself to the two ladies in my same heat.

What follows is a quick running diary of my thoughts as I experienced a Hyrox race for the first time…
