If you’re not careful, the NFL can easily swallow up your entire schedule.
Pre-kid that was more of a feature than a bug for me, but it was something I wanted to protect against heading into the 2024 season.
I’ve previously written about how I’ve found myself constantly trying to preserve what little time I have with April before she grows out of this very fun toddler stage:
I’ve become increasingly aware of how much I am going to miss these moments from April’s early years. I know Future Pete is going to ache longingly for them. And acknowledging that has resulted in doing whatever mental gymnastics I can to slow down this inevitable march of time.
I recently wrestled back some of my Sundays in pursuit of this goal, but the real W for me has been freeing up my Wednesdays of major work responsibilities so I can spend them with April.
We’ve built out a solid routine for these days—a toddler gym class in the morning, park/library after her nap—and I’ve come to really look forward to Wednesdays each week.
In addition to carving out additional time to spend with April, I’ve appreciated it breaking up my work week.
Thursdays are by far my busiest day with 4+ hours of streaming, making a Deposit Kingdom video, and writing up a Fantasy Life DFS piece, so it’s been nice to enter that frenzy feeling refreshed from a day off with April.
There have certainly been a few Wednesdays where I’ve felt behind the eight ball and wished I had some extra time, but then again there’s never enough time in the week to get everything done that I’d like to accomplish.
I have a never-ending list of things I could/should do. I even recently renamed a section on my to do list “backburner” so I didn’t have to lie to myself anymore.
Still, I know I’ll never look back and wish I worked more on Wednesdays.

Haven’t been listening to a ton of new music lately, but this track from Jack J popped up on Spotify last weekend when I was driving at night and it hit perfectly:
